Kareem Abdul-Jabbar announced that he has been battling with cancer for almost a year now. He was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia in December 08 and is now undergoing treatment. His medication includes things that target the abnormal protein in his body with causes the disease and his prognosis if all goes well is that he will be able to lead a full and active life. He decided to come out and state his battle to encourage other cancer patients to monitor their disease and take the treatments seriously.
